So You Plan to Marry a Man: Wisdom for Brides, by Jean Oathout

Endorsements

“I can’t tell you enough how many changes I have recently seen in my husband and our marriage, since starting to read these poems and praying…along with taking some of the advice and quieting my mouth when I need to.” – Kylie J., Mother and housewife

“Jean Oathout’s poems have personally touched and taught me. Thank you, Jean, for being obedient to God, and for sharing your blessing with me. I like the personal feeling. These poems brought tears to my eyes. Great advice. Wow. Did you write these for me? Ouch, back in the ‘refinery’ I go. I have much more respect for my husband now.” – Mary H., mother, housewife, and nurse

“I am glad to recommend Jean Oathout’s ministry of poetry. As you reflect on the message of these poems, you will encounter the Holy Spirit’s presence in fresh, new ways.” – Dennis King, pastor Owego (NY) Church of the Nazarene

“I was flabbergasted to open Jean Oathout’s volume and read these instructive devotional poems. What a variety of topics. What practical counsel. I hope these poems will bless many as they have impressed me.” – Bob Hostetler, speaker, and author of 27 books

“Most books of poetry are tiresome, with trite phrasing and no central theme. Jean Oathout’s work is a refreshing difference, with a clear, thematic devotional structure and wording that is original without being obscure. Best of all, she infuses her verses with strong biblical teaching, which makes for a rewarding devotional experience. Take a look — you’ll be hooked. – David E. Fessenden, Senior editor, CLC Publications, Author of Writing the Christian Nonfiction Book: Concept to Contract

April 2012

What do drive-by diaper stores and God have in common? When is blabbing an acceptable habit? Why should you beware of moths and sligs? In her entertaining, uplifting style, award-winning author and humorist Jeanette Levellie weaves 72 amusing stories with affirming Biblical truths. These soul-nourishing examples of God’s favor and grace will help you:

Laugh when you find cow patties in your field instead of daisies
Discover the bottomless heart of God
Grow in your acceptance of yourself and others

Welcome a vacation from stress as you discover the sweetness of Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles on Top.

“Jeanette’s writing can best be described as bi-polar: one minute you’re laughing at her comical observations on life and the next reeling with conviction from her spiritual lessons. But no need for psychotropic drugs. Just enjoy her wit and wisdom in this delightful, habit-forming book!” - James N. Watkins, award-winning author and humorist

“Jeanette Levellie sparkles in her laugh-out-loud Two Scoops of Grace with Chuckles on Top. Love this delicious gift of encouragement perfect for anyone in need of a dose of sugar. I couldn’t put it down. Each chapter kept me hungry for another lick.”- Elaine W. Miller, Speaker and Author of three books including, We All Married Idiots: Three Things You’ll Never Change About Your Life and Ten Things You Can. www.SplashesofSerenity.com

“Jeanette Levellie is truly the Erma Bombeck of Christian writers. Her many humorous anecdotes drive home a serious message: God in his grace loves and accepts each of us unconditionally through Jesus Christ. Two Scoops of Grace will bring a smile (or ten, or fifty) to your face and encouragement to your heart.” - Dean Christensen, Director, Office of Advising Services, California State University, Fresno, author, copyeditor, and voiceover talent

As a former History/Government teacher with an Associate’s degree in English, Jeanette enjoys speaking and singing for church and civic groups, offering mirth and worth in every message. Her hobbies include reading, traveling, watching black & white movies, drinking the strongest coffee she can find, and discovering new ways to avoid housework. Jeanette and her husband, Kevin, are Mom and Dad to two adults, grandparents to three children, and servants to four cats. They live in Paris, Illinois.

He is an author, speaker, and leadership coach, and directs two ministries in Littleton, Colorado: Reconnections [www.TheReconnectedChurch.org] and The Carpenter’s Helpers, www.TheCarpentersHelpers.org. Mike’s great adventure through the Psalms began with personal struggles to find depth, passion, meaning, and connection to God in his prayer life. Since first being introduced to the practice in 1999, he has found his answers in making it a regular part of his daily devotionals. Michael is married to Tammi, and has three sons and three grandchildren.
